Stumped: A Short Animation

Stumped (as can be watched below) was a two month long class project completed in Creative Technology Studio III, based on the current NC State Design Library Redesign Project (though, of course, who expected animation and video game majors to be realistic?). We were to create a story, characters, an environment, and finish it off with a two minute animation depicting each part of our efforts. Each person from the class was assigned a role by handpicked directors, and I was lucky enough to be a part of all of them! I started in both Character Design and Environment Design, picked by both directors and inevitably taken off Character Design as our main character, Hazel (seen in blue with a witches hat) was created. My four elemental designs were archived, though I plan on repurposing them.

After that journey, I was asked to join the Storyboarding Team, where I developed ideas for the final animation; then, while still on Environments, I was tasked with joining the Animation Team.

The work was stressful and took up a lot of my time, but I’m proud of what we created together, and it was great to be on so many parts of the project so that I could see where I truly wanted to fit. What I found through this project is that I genuinely and passionately enjoy every step of the artistic process, and I would never have any qualms about being on a team as long as I got the chance to work! The two videos placed here include my favorite, and most difficult shot for the animation, and the finished animation. I completed around eight shots total throughout the four minutes, and hope to get my hands on the rest of them soon.
